Consisting of Adam Holcomb, Jaik Hakkarinen, Claire Lucas, Jill Olivar, Craig Abramson, and James Middleton, Chase Street Jam describes themselves as a band that “grooves with the improvisation and interpretation of the roots of jazz.” CSJ was formed out of the love of music, entertainment, and community. They are a working band booking private and public events, including most recently the Edgewater Hometown Festival and Mercury Cafe! This weeks album is dedicated to jazz pianist and composer, Herbie Hancock’s 6th album, “Speak Like a Child”!

Why is it special?: This 1968 Blue Note album features an abnormal front line (or horn/voice section) instrumentation of bass trombone, alto flute, and flugelhorn which creates a unique texture for melody delivery.

What does the artist say?: Hancock’s approach to this album is described as childlike instead of childish. He states this album is “a forward look into what could be a bright future.”

We are excited to share that on Tuesday, October 29, at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, six legendary icons of Denver’s jazz scene will be inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame! These people (and places) are El Chapultepec & Jerry Krantz, Greg Gisbert, Eric Gunnison, KUVO & Carlos Lando, Ellyn Rucker, and Ken Walker.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to celebrate and support Colorado’s capitol city’s rich jazz heritage. Ticket prices begin at $40 and doors open at 7:15pm (6pm for VIP). We hope to see you there!
