Jazz Boot Camp

Jazz Boot Camp: Improvisation and Technique Intensive

  • For all levels of teenage jazz instrumentalists and vocalists
  • June 6 – 9, 2017 at the Newman Center, University of Denver Campus
  • 9:30am-3pm each day

The Jazz Boot Camp features:

  • Leveled theory classes that focus on learning and playing
  • Multi-topic master classes featuring some of the region’s most outstanding clinicians
  • Small group playing focusing on improvisation, led by incredible professional musicians
  • Faculty performances

The cost for four days of instruction is $290, and is well worth it! You will be able to apply what you learn at this camp for years to come. The student/faculty ratio averages 6:1! This camp is also for players with significant jazz experience, and we will place you accordingly. The “Boot Camp” aspect refers to its intensity, not its level of instruction.

This year, we are pleased to welcome 3-time Grammy winner, New York tenor saxophonist Ralph Lalama to our faculty! Ralph is a solid fixture of the New York jazz scene and respected world-wide and embodies the best of the jazz sound ideal – great time, great swing, expressed through great melodic ideas. Everything he says and plays comes out of his deep connection and appreciation for “the Beat.” Jazz critic Zan Stewart put it succinctly: “Lalama is a grand, modern-minded storyteller…a first-class jazz soloist.” Over his impressive career starting with Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, and the Mel Lewis Orchestra – now the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra – he has honed the craft of sonic blending.

To register, click here and remit the $90 deposit to secure your place. There are a limited number of participants, so we encourage early registration. Unless there are still openings, registration ends June 1st. If you have any questions, please contact Paul Romaine at 720-201-6885, or paul@jazzarts.org.
