CCJA’s core small group program places students from all over the metro area in small (7-9 piece) jazz ensembles, who are directed by professional musician mentors. These mentors are all accomplished professional musicians, most of whom also teach at the college level, and who help them reach whatever level of mastery they desire, while feeling connected and supported as they explore their artistic selves. Student musicians also benefit greatly from playing with and learning from our Near Peer Mentors; young professional musicians who also support our groups and students. These ensembles meet weekly (in 3 ten-week sessions per school year) to rehearse, play, and perform together as they study jazz improvisation, technique, style, theory, and history.
The Boulder Winter groups rehearse Tuesday Evenings 7-9pm — Nov 6, 13, 27, Dec 4, 11, 18, Jan 8, 15, 22 in the Macky Auditorium building. The end of the session concert will be January 29 at Nissi’s in Lafayette.
**Priority Registration for Rhythm Section Players ends at the end of the day on October 17th**
When you register here, you’ll receive an auto reply email/receipt, and you’ll receive emails with more detailed information from our office before the session starts. If you choose to make a half payment, the balance will be due December 15, and you’ll receive an electronic invoice for it.
CCJA classes meet in classrooms at the West end of the building, in the Thompson Jazz Studies department.
